Smartphones are great accessories to have for runners. They can help you stay in shape, track your mileage, and even check the time you’ve been running as well as how many miles you covered. However, many runners complain about the cluttered style of many wallets. This makes carrying your phones and other accessories to and from your run difficult.
There are two main kinds of wallets designed specifically for runners: wallets with hard plastic pockets or soft elasticated band style. Most runners agree that the soft elasticated band style wallets are easier to carry and more comfortable than the hard plastic pockets. As a result, most athletes choose to use this type of wallet to keep their items secure. While there are many different brands and styles available, we have found a few popular brands that tend to be more functional and easier to use.
If you’re a runner, you’re probably accustomed to having your pulse oximeter, thermometer, and other personal items with you wherever you go. The problem with many of these items is that they leave traces of moisture on your skin. While many athletes continue to wear these items, they do tend to leave perspiration on your wrist. To test whether or not your clothing has been absorbing moisture, you can take your pulse oximeter with you to the gym, which will display an icon that says WELT.
When you test your running attire in this manner, it will be easier to find pockets that aren’t absorbing moisture. After you’ve found pockets that don’t retain moisture, then you need to determine which pockets you’d like to carry. Two popular options for runners include: credit card compartments and mobile phone pockets.
If you’re trying to decide which pocket to use, it’s important to remember that most people carry their smartphones in their pockets. To test this, insert your smart phone into one of your main pockets (such as your shin pocket) and then put it inside another pocket, such as your phone case. After you have placed your smartphone inside the pockets, you should be able to hear a beep or buzz. If your pocket is absorbing moisture, this should not be happening.
For this reason, most athletes choose to go with a wristband over a wallet. Wristbands, however, aren’t waterproof. For this reason, many athletes use a hip pocket or shin pocket, which are designed to be water resistant and are closed using a Velcro strap. Since most sweatbands are also small, they won’t get stuck in a pocket.
